Goldwater Scholarship Program

 

Who can Apply? 

Sophomores and juniors who are planning careers in mathematics, the natural sciences, or engineering

 

 What’s in it for you?

Up to $7,500 per year for up to two years to be applied towards tuition, books, and dormitory fees

 

 Requirements:

-A minimum GPA of 3.0.  (The higher your GPA, the better your chances.)

-A major in math, the natural sciences (biology, chemistry, geology, physics, archeology), or engineering

-Plans to have a career in mathematics, the natural sciences, or engineering

-Plans to attend graduate school

-Research experience is a plus.

 

Deadlines and the Application Process: 

Please contact Dr. Lee Lewis (see below) as soon as possible for appropriate applications materials.  All materials must be turned in to Dr. Lewis by January 10.  These materials include several letters of recommendation from various faculty members and an essay stating your career goals and how you intend to accomplish them.  Because is takes time to write excellent essays and recommendation letters, the sooner one starts the application process the better. 

 

Who need not apply: 

-Those who are going into health-related professions and who are not planning on doing research

-Those who are going into secondary education
